The Technology

AlcoProof is unique, as it is the only ‘tube style’ breathalyser to have passed the necessary NF equivalent tests, without the use of a blow bag. It has achieved this using a patented combination of flow restrictor valves and thermal ink technology to indicate when a suitable quantity of breath has passed through the tube to give an accurate reading.

The precision moulded plastic caps at each the end of the tube incorporate restrictor valves which mean that the user’s breath can only pass through the tube at a controlled rate. This ensures that the breath passes through the alcohol level ‘indicator crystals’ in the correct manner. During this process the user’s breath causes a chemical reaction with the crystals, which heats up the glass tube at an even rate and, in doing so, will ‘trigger’ a colour change in the red thermal ink ‘indictor dot’ on the outside of the tube.

This colour change signals that the correct amount of breath, to give an accurate reading, has passed through the tube and that the user should stop blowing. As the tube then cools, the indicator dot will return to its original red colour which tells the user that the test is complete and they can then check their
alcohol level.
